Jive the night away.
THERE'S more rock-'n'-roll at Brooklands Club this Friday (August 29) when The Strollers make a much-anticipated appearance.
Dedicated followers of the rockin' circuit will need no introduction to this band who have carved a name for themselves during their long and distinguished career with TV and radio appearances, records and countless live gigs worldwide.
For those less familiar with the genre, The Strollers' origins date back to 1976 and they have been at the forefront of live 50's style rock-'n'-roll continuously since 1981 when, with their original five piece line up fronted by Gina Wall, they signed with leading independent label Magnum Force Records and went on to record three albums, three singles and several contributions to compilation albums.
After Gina's departure in 1997, the band rocked on first as a three-piece and since 2003, back to full strength with the classic line up consisting of chief singer, songwriter and guitarist, Paul James, whose searing vocals and lead guitar provide the perfect time-tempered foil for the sternum rattling sound of Rollin' Lol Lewis on double bass, the unshakeable rhythm of Brian Martin on drums and most recently, following Jim Hale's departure, the amazing harmonica, guitar, vocal and songwriting skills of Spike Lawless.
The gig includes a charity raffle for Bowel Cancer Research sponsored by Ellenesse Builders and the doors of the club in Garden Leys, Leighton, open at 7pm.
