THE battle of husbands and wives will be a key feature in next month's Town Council elections.
Couples will do battle in four of Leighton's six wards in the May 3 elections.

Conservative party hopefuls George and Maureen Rolfe are after seats in the Grovebury ward while Town Mayor Mark Freeman and his wife Susan, both Liberal Democrats, wil
l go head-to-head in the Linslade ward.

Rivalry will also be found in the Plantation ward where Conservatives Brian and Patricia Sadler are up.

The last couple competing is Celia and Peter Snelling, both Lib Dems, in the Southcott ward.

In all the make-up of the council will again be mostly Lib Dem and Conservative, with only two Labour candidates standing in the Town council elections – Peter Palfrey in Southcott ward and Maurice Blackman in All Saints.

District Council elections will also be taking place in all six of Leighton's wards as well as in Heath and Reach.

Polling will take place between 7am and 10pm on Thursday May 3. Counting will then take place in two venues.

Counting for the District Council seats will take place at Dunstable Leisure Centre and an announcement on final results is expected between midnight and 1am on Friday May 4.

From 10am on Friday May 4 counting for the Town Council elections will take place at the South Bedfordshire District Council Offices in Dunstable.

An announcement on the final results is expected sometime after 12 noon on May 4.
