Boost for Street Pastors
Street Pastors money
Street Pastors will continue to patrol Leighton’s street after the group received a welcome cash boost from the Rotary Club of Leighton-Linslade.
The £2,000 donation, the result of high street collections, will help keep the teams out on Saturday nights from 10pm-4am.
“Although our teams all work voluntarily, and happily so, there are costs including insurance, uniforms, training, equipment, which aren’t cheap,” said Street Pastor spokesman Harvey Fryer.
“We are extremely grateful to the Rotary Club for its generosity, and to the people of Leighton-Linslade who donated the money during recent community events.”
This year, the Street Pastors’ fundraising drive has included climbing Yorkshire’s three peaks and holding music nights at the Litten Tree pub.
The Street Pastor initiative, which seeks to create a safer community through ‘helping, caring and listening’, has received praise from the police, town council and MP Andrew Selous.
Leighton-Linslade residents are invited to a Street Pastors ‘Celebration Night’ on October 12 at Hockliffe Baptist Church at 8pm.
