Cheddington hunt for buried treasure

Yo ho ho, a pirate adventure next weekend!

Swashbuckling adventure on the high seas, buried treasure, evil pirates and memorable songs and dances – it all adds up to a feast of entertainment by members of Cheddington Youth Drama Group (CYDG) when they stage their version of 'Treasure Island' at the village hall.

The production, which is a musical take on Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale, features Wing's Eden Monteith as the young hero, Jim Hawkins. Eden and her sister Merin (who is also in the play) appeared in TV's Doctor Who earlier in the year.

With Danny Houchen as Long John Silver and 30 other talented youngsters from the ages of seven to 15, this is CYDG's most ambitious production to date and includes a live band, eye catching scenes and even non-alcoholic cocktails available for the audience with names like 'Skull Island Slammer' and 'Walk The Plank Mai Tai'.

"It's an exciting show with some great songs and dances," says director, Colin Bryer.

"Our biggest challenge has been to transform many of our group into horrible pirates, but they've really risen to it.

"Luckily we also have a fantasic, talented adult crew behind us to ensure that the show goes ahead as professionally as possible, with some great songs and dances."

'Treasure Island', by Stephen Kingsbury, is being staged on Saturday 26 June at 7.30pm and Sunday 27 June at 3.00pm.

Tickets are 6 and 4 and available from the box office: 01296 668033.
