Walkers hot-foot it over coals in Edlesborough

Firewalk draws crowd to village green.

A GROUP of 23 brave volunteers put their best feet forward to undertake a walk over burning coals in Edlesborough in aid of charity.

They prepared themselves for the blistering challenge with a two-hour workshop run by the organisers before being led to the pyre on the village green in front of dozens of spectators.

The event, run by the EDaN (Edlesborough, Dagnall and Northall) Project, also included a competition for the best guy, barbecue and stalls.

Once the walkers had psyched themselves up they were led to the coals which were in full flame.

Christine Yates, one of the organisers, said afterwards: "I think there were probably a few who could have easily backed out at this point.

"They then lined up ready to walk over the coals and before they knew it they had done it, with much support from the crowds of villagers who had gathered to see them all BURN! Sorry I mean walk over the coals.

"It was a marvellous experience and we even had some walkers who said they would do it again!"

Money raised from the night is going to the EDaN Project and Keech Cottage Children's Hospice.

The walkers were: Dave Coppen, Sue Waldron Vicky Lee, Kathy & Emma Bovington, Michael Buck, Sarah Dunn, Andy Janes, Neville Bowers, Tim Jones, Darren Price, Jan Perkins, Richard Sunderland, Simon Wilson, Sally Thorne, Dawn Thurgood, Caroline Murgatroyd, Michelle Ward, Penni (Pinstripes), Adrian Bush, Mark Taylor, Paul Hurley, Dave Hobson and Leon.
