Guides’ county camp is out of this world
The county camp held at Tolmers Activity Centre in Hertfordshire
Guides from South Bedfordshire Division which includes Leighton Buzzard and Linslade joined more than 200 Guides and leaders for all across Bedfordshire at an Out Of This World space themed county camp held at Tolmers Activity Centre in Hertfordshire.
The girls camped outdoors and took part in all sorts of new and adventurous activities making new friends along the way.
They could go water zorbing, canoeing, rafting, climbing and abseiling, test their nerve on the ropes couse, fly high on the bungee trampolines or even climb a coconut tree. Girls could have a go at archery, rifle shooting and pedal karting too.
There was the opportunity to learn trangia and Backwoods outdoor cooking skills, get moving with Bollywood and zumba dancing, get tapping at drumming workshops and even visit a travelling planetarium.
The camp had its own daily Planet newspaper where the Guides could be reporters, photographers and editors for a day and they came up with a very professional looking newspaper. There were of course many camp fires during the week with lots of singing and cooking marshmallows.
Richard Reynard from Leighton Buzzard Musical Theatre High spent a whole day at the camp teaching a group a musical number which was performed to the whole camp at the closing ceremony. All in all it was a fantastic week of adventure, fun and friendship.
