It's the best gift box collection in this area
124 boxes filled by school
ST Michael's School in Stewkley has filled 124 empty shoeboxes with gifts for Operation Christmas Child, organised by the Samaritans Purse Charity.
The boxes were donated by the Matalan store in Milton Keynes and will be sent to less fortunate youngsters in The Ukraine.
Chris Hunt a representative from the charity and Woburn Church, which acts as a central collection point, visited the school on Thursday and collected the boxes during a whole school assembly.
Parents Mrs Angela Casey and Mrs Tricia Black co-ordinated the school's effort.
Mrs Lucy McFarlane, Deputy Head, said: "I am staggered at the children's generosity and enthusiasm for such a worthy cause"
St Michael's also recently held its first ever 'Parents Day in School'.
The idea came from head teacher Kieran Salter, and 46 parents and grandparents spent a Friday in the school teaching English and related activities with the children. Some talked about a book they enjoyed as a child and what sort of reading and writing they do every day as part of their job and for leisure.
Mr Salter said the day was an eye-opener and general success all round.
