Mum's the word at re-launched Cheeky Monkeys in Eaton Bray

Jake made a crocodile cake out of playdough

A TODDLER group in Eaton Bray has been saved from closure by three mums.

Cheeky Monkeys, as it is now called, opened its doors on Wednesday afternoon to 35 babies and toddlers, accompanied by their mums.

The group is aimed at under-fives and the new lease of life has brought in more toys and structured play for the children at its home in Eaton Bray Village Hall.

The three mums behind the project are Sue Fox, Sarah Ross, and Louise Beale, who all wanted somewhere for their children to play when the old group closed after 20 years.

Sue Fox said: "We are really pleased with the relaunch. We have designated areas of play and so much more in the pipeline."

Anne Johnson, who lives in the village, had brought along two of her children – Sam, three, and Hannah, who is three months.

She said: "It's great that the group has reopened as there is nothing else in the village, especially in the afternoons. It's good to meet up with people and the organisers have put in loads of effort. Sam likes to be with his friends."

Jake, aged four, and his mum Teresa Stack used to be regular visitors to the old playtime session.

As she helped Jake cut up his playdough crocodile cake, Teresa said: "I was really surprised when closure was announced, but it's really good that it has reopened. It's great for Jake to mix with others and we are going to come every week. There is more to do this time."

Jo Tapping had brought along her 'cheeky monkey' Jack, who is 18 weeks old, to meet others from her post-natal group.

Fiona Campbell with Benjamin, 12 weeks old, thought the group was great because they could all walk to it.

Jo said: "This is an ideal group for everyone. We don't have to commit and it's somewhere to take the babies for a change of scenery."

Cheeky Monkeys is open every Wednesday in the village hall during term time only, starting at 1.30pm.
