Down Memory Lane: Scouts not hoboes
The Scouts let their hair down at this fancy dress party in Leighton Scouts Hall in February 1964.
The LBO reporter of the time captioned the picture with the cheeky line: “They’re not the hoboes that some of them seem to be, but Scouts in disguise.”
Also that week, the newspaper reported predictions that by 1981 the combined towns of Leighton and Linslade would have a population of 42,500.
In 1961, the population of Leighton was 12,000 and Linslade was 4,000.
In 1964 the towns were billed as a ‘commuter’s dream’, with the 40mph Euston trainline planned.
