High drama in Leighton

These lovely ladies put on a show at Brooklands School in Leighton in April 1964.

Mary Gray, Renee Merry, Jackie Clark and Phyllis Palmer were part of The Brooklands Players and Gaddesden Drama Club performance of Music Hall Memories.

Also that week, there was a surprise defeat for the Tories in Leighton, when two Labour candidates were returned at Beds County Council elections.

The Conservatives remained the largest single party on the council though, with overall control.

Meanwhile there was rethinking on the development plans for Leighton and Linslade.

It was decided the growth should be more natural, and that a new map of the town would be needed with Linslade added.
