In the bleak Luton midwinter

editorial image

WINTRY weather finally arrived last week and Luton News photographers were out and about capturing snowy scenes. So we’ve delved into our archives and found these pictures of Luton winters in bygone years.

The main photo, taken in February 1956, shows a policeman helping pedestrians across George Street during a snowstorm. Do you remember the Woolworths store and Mac Fisheries? And can you name the other shop on the right?

The other pictures are of Old Bedford Road in January 1964 and People’s Park in 1926.
