Ready, steady, toss
THE 2011 Heath and Reach WI pancake races attracted a flipping large crowd to the village’s Thrift Road recreation ground.
The fun began with a hard fought relay race that saw the Little Fishes mum group from St Leonard’s Lower Church taking the winners trophy with the Rotary Club of Leighton-Linslade going home with the wooden spoon.
The ladies of the WI came “somewhere in the middle” despite a “noble effort.”
Hannah Jaggard of South Street, Leighton, showed a clean pair of heels to cross the finish line first in the race and revealed that she entered with the intention of battering the opposition.
She said: “I’m ecstatic.
“I’ve been training with Gregg at Harpers Gym at Tiddefoot Leisure Center three times a week and came here to win.”
Other racers included youngsters from St Leonard’s Lower School.
WI president, Jill Thomas, said: “It was a beautiful day, everybody enjoyed themselves and we sold lots of lunches and home-made cakes.”
Money raised will go to prostate cancer research.
