Scrumptious time at Drayton Parslow cream tea

Village join pre-school group for an afternoon of fun.

THERE were a lot of contented faces as families in Drayton Parslow enjoyed a perfect British summer event - luscious cream teas under a cloudless blue sky – to raise funds for its pre-school group.

The youngsters joined their parents and villagers at the Recreation Road sports and social club to sample the culinary delights of volunteers.

The cream tea afternoon, which was attended by district councillor Neil Blake and his wife, Janet who is chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council, raised more than 300 for the pre-school group.

Bev Trevitt, from the Buckinghamshire Community Foundation, was also a guest who formallyawarded the group a 1400 grant cheque.

The visitors young and old were entertained by 360 Play (Milton Keynes), a hugebouncy castle, guess the name of the pony, books and craft stalls, face painters, raffle, temporary tattoos, lucky dip, various childrens stalls and obviously mountains of infamous home-made scones!!!

Fundraising secretary Alicia Rolls said: "We had some wonderful stalls on the day including our extensive cake stall.

"I didn't get a chance to sample the wares but I could hear a lot of 'mmmmm's' and 'oh delicious'.

"The children had also been taking part in a sponsored 'Listen' the previous weekto encourage their communication, language and literacy skills .

"The total was also announced on the day and the children had managed to raise over 1,000 in sponsorship money and books. We are incredibly proud of all our children's efforts.

"It was a very hot dayand I would like to thank allof our volunteers and wonderful cake bakers for their support, despite the sticky weather."
