Tactic is right to help young
Tracey Quinn with founding manager Rachel Stanton outside the Tactic Centre.
Leighton’s Tactic centre held open house on Friday to mark its 10th anniversary in the town.
Dozens of supporters joined the mayor, Councillor Alan Brandham, in toasting the success of The Teenage Advice Centre, Teenage Information Centre, in Hockliffe Street which has seen young people visit more than 70,000 times in the past decade.
The Grade II listed building has become a home from home for youngsters aged 16-20. Somewhere they can chill with their friends or seek advice on a range of issues including drug and alcohol abuse, employment, education and financial help.
New manager Tracey Quinn, praised Leighton-Linslade Town Council for its continued support.
LLTC threw its weight behind the concept after being persuaded by town GP Judy King who was keen to set up an advice centre.
Initial fears that it would only attract trouble-makers proved unfounded and it has become a huge success story that has been unequalled in any other town in Britain.
Tracey is now hoping to extend its opening hours, possibly opening a youth cafe on Saturdays, and offering specialist courses for target groups.
See next week’s LBO for an in-depth look at the centre.
