Developers are squaring up to each other to build out of town retail parks in Leighton.

Currently there are THREE supersize schemes for shops, a DIY store and a takeaway drive-through off Grovebury Road.

The under-utilised brownfield site, which stretches over more than eight acres, currently houses dilapidated warehousing.

But while developers are keen to get their plans approved by Central Beds Council to stop spending being taken out of Leighton to other retail parks in the region, town centre traders are worried about the impact on their High Street business.

But what do the public think? Today we are launching the latest LBO reader poll to gauge opinion ahead of the council decision on the schemes.

We have produced an online poll where you can vote for or against the plans. You can also leave comments by registering with this website and leaving your thoughts at the bottom of this article. There’s also a form in today’s newspaper for readers to fill in and return to us.

The last time we ran a poll on a topic which carried a perceived threat to the town centre, more than 1,000 of our readers voted.

The Tesco expansion at Vimy Road, drew in 1,108 votes, with 188 (17 per cent) backing the plan and 913 (82 per cent) against it.

So don’t delay, vote online and why not grab a paper and fill in our form too.
