G & S in memory of Malcolm
Brian Rose
ONE of the founders of The Vale Gilbert and Sullivan Society is directing its next production which is being dedicated to his late son.
Popular and talented tenor Malcolm Rose died last autumn after a brief illness aged just 53. He had been a stalwart in a number of local organisations, including The Vale Gilbert and Sullivan Society (VG&S) and The Halton Singers, playing most of the great Gilbert and Sullivan tenor roles.
“Malcolm was much loved,” said society chairman Jackie Farrow. “Everyone who knew him will tell you of his amazing voice, great sense of humour and infectious laugh.”
Malcolm’s father, Brian Rose, from Pitstone, was one of the founders of VG&S and has continued to appear in its productions throughout the society’s 42-year history. Its next production, Gilbert and Sullivan’s Ruddigore, will be dedicated to Malcolm with Brian directing.
Jackie said: “To make this the unforgettable production Malcolm would have wished, we are inviting everyone interested in musical entertainment to get involved, whether onstage or behind the scenes. For VG&S members, past and present, especially those who knew Malcolm, this is a show not to miss.”

Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse concerns Robin Oakapple, who loves village darling Rose Maybud, but will not pursue her because he is secretly the accursed Baronet of Ruddigore. It all turns out all right in the end, but not before an appearance by the ghosts of Robin’s ancestors.
Rehearsals take place at the Antony Hall, Aston Clinton at 8 pm on Tuesdays, although there is no meeting tonight (Tuesday). Auditions for principal roles will be at the Antony Hall on February 28. The show is being performed from June 13-16.
Anyone who would be interested in getting involved in the production is welcome to turn up on a rehearsal night. For more details, contact Norma Collins on 01442 825935 or Jackie Farrow on 01442 381739.
