Farndale ladies have fun at Leighton Library Theatre

Comedy hits the high seas.

IT'S probably the longest play title in comedy-drama but "We Found Love and an Exquisite Set of Porcelain Figurines Aboard the SS Farndale Avenue" but don't let that put you off.

Flushed and following on from their previous successes, the stalwart veterans of the FAHETG Dramatic Society (better known as the Leighton Buzzard Drama Group!) is poised to conquer another dramatic idiom.

In romantic vein aboard an ocean-going liner for their excursion into the world of thirties' musical comedy la Nol and Gertie, the ladies prove that the age of elegance, glamour and enchantment is not dead ... well, not quite anyway.

As with all Farndale comedies Murphy's Law rules: anything that can go wrong with the production DOES! From falling scenery to falling actors, from missing cues, to missing props the only thing this show is not missing is Laughs!

It's a first class farce to lighten the heart.

The series of modern-day plays about the (mis)adventures of the Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen's Guild Dramatic Society are popular with am-dram groups nation-wide and LB Drama Group has found them a huge hit with their audiences.

This one is a romance set aboard a shipboard cruise back in the swinging twenties. Or, at least, it would be, if the cast could stop bickering amongst themselves, the stage crew could pick up their cues and any of the actors could remember what they were supposed to be doing or saying on the stage.

Despite that, they struggle through the plot: Constance, sailing to Naples to marry Beauregard, meets up with childhood sweetheart Noel. As Beauregard is secretly also on board, the ensuing love triangle develops on the voyage, inevitable shipwreck, sojourn on a desert island island and eventual rescue.

Nobody is quite sure how it finishes, though: that part gets rather overlooked amidst the chaos. It's a comedy, by the way.

Running at Leighton Library Theatre from Thursday to Saturday (July 1 to 3).
