Nothing On (and Noises Off!) at Court Theatre

Hysterical Michael Frayn comedy comes with health warning for cast!

Michael Frayn's hilarious farce Noises Off is a comedy about the attempts of a drama group to get it "right on the night" - so watching an am-dram company attempt to do the same thing at The Court Theatre, Tring will be slightly surreal.

Noises Off, which runs from Thursday to Saturday, has been voted one of the funniest ever modern plays.

This theatrical gem revolves around a fourth rate touring cast trying – and struggling – to put on an awful sex farce called Nothing On.

It's rarely performed by am-dram because of its complexity involving two shows running at the same time.

It includes all the great elements of farce, slamming doors, stairs, false entrances, breaking windows, miscues and double entendres and that's without the missing plate of sardines.

Noises Off is an absolute treat, and certainly not one to be missed.

Director, Iain Fowles said: "This is the first time that I have directed a show where the cast has needed to wear safety gear in rehearsals!"

Tickets are available from the box office on 01442 823130 or online at www.courttheatre.co.uk

*ON THIS WEEK: David Mamet's Glengarry Glen Ross is playing from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Saturday.

Mamet's study of competitive capitalism has scarcely dated in the 25 years since it was written. The play not only describes the merciless environment of the sales office, but by implication is a condemnation of consumerism and the endless search for greater profits.

But as well as being an indictment on our frenzied consumerist society it is a play about language. This language is often crude and repetitive but it's the crackling, testosterone-fuelled language of desperate men driven to compete and survive.

Mamet manages to show a perverse admiration for these con men who put themselves on the line every day while at the same time showing the ugliness of a society that thrives on greed and gullibility.

Please note: This play contains frequent use of language which may offend and is unsuitable for children.
