Season of good cheer from Leighton Buzzard Drama Group
LBDG offer Season's Greetings from Alan Ayckbourn.
With Easter fast approaching and Christmas almost a distant memory, what better way to enjoy both festivities than heading to the Leighton Buzzard Theatre for Alan Ayckbourn's black and witty play Season's Greetings which opens on March 25 for a three day run.
The comedy, directed by Bridgette Whittaker, is the latest offering by the Leighton Buzzard Drama Group.
It focuses on an average suburban family at the height of the Yuletide period, Christmas Eve to Boxing Day.
Forget goodwill to all men, Season's Greetings goes for the jugular with a hilarious look at the petty squabbles and problems that afflict families and relationships.
Bernard, a feeble spirited doctor, struggles to support his drunken wife Phyllis, and hopelessly tries to escape his troubles by performing a dismal puppet show for the children in the house.
Then there's restless Belinda , who endures a stale relationship with Neville, a man always too busy with gadgets or fiddling around in his shed.
Belinda is not the only woman going unnoticed. Pattie, the pregnant wife of Eddie, is largely ignored and resorts to nagging her husband and wishing she was not having another child, while Eddie, a lazy man who failed to strike out on his own, spends the holiday sucking up to Neville for work.
Rachel, Belinda's emotionally confused sister and suave writer Clive also suffer the trials and tribulations of a relationship while Uncle Harvey laments the collapse of society and gorges on violent TV.
The insights into the characters' lives are peppered with comedy including Belinda and Clive's bungled attempt at sex, a drunken game of snakes and ladders, and Bernard's fight with Harvey after his puppet show goes wrong.
Season's Greetings has an outstanding and experienced local cast which regular Leighton Buzzard Theatre-goers will recognise, including Donna Hughes, Carl Russell, Karan Trabucchi, Adam Fahn, Kim Aguilar, Stephen Clark, Paul Holmes, Caroline Hughes and Randall Moll.
Seasons Greetings runs from March 25-27, starting at 8pm. For tickets
