Evil Richard is Stepping Out into comedy
Actor Brian Capron swaps murder for fancy footwork in classic drama.
TO millions of Corrie fans Brian Capron will forever be associated with the evil Richard Hillman but he shows a completely different side of his personality when he stars in Stepping Out at Milton Keynes Theatre next week.
Brian plays Geoffrey, a bumbling but loveable character who is going through a bit of a mid-life crisis.
Stepping Out is written by award-winning playwright Richard Harris, renowned for Outside Edge, Party Piece and most recently Surviving Spike.
In a dusty church hall, ex-professional dancer Mavis Turner holds her weekly tap class. Every Thursday, in stumbles her well-intentioned but not overly talented troupe – the awkward but hugely enthusiastic Lynne, snooty Vera, streetwise Maxine and the rest of the group – all brought together to dance as if no one is watching, and hopefully no-one ever will.
That's until they're invited to perform at a charity gala. As disbelief is replaced by sheer terror, can this bunch of amateurs pull together and put on the performance of a lifetime?
Much-loved British star Anita Harris plays the snooty Vera. Famed for film roles in Carry on Doctor and Follow that Camel and on stage in Strangers on the Train, My Cousin Rachel, Stepping Out, Bell Book and Ruth Rendell's dark drama House of Stairs.
For twenty-five years, Stepping Out has delighted audiences with its heart-warming story, proving that in dancing, as in life, it's always better to follow your own tune.
