Here Come The Boys in sizzling hot show at The Grove

Ultimate pin-up men send temperatures soaring at venue.

HERE Come The Boys! But where were all the girls ?

This century's answer to The Chippendales stormed into Dunstable on Wednesday night with one of the most spectacular shows to play at The Grove and the place was half empty.

Given the choice between watching Coronation Street and seeing the world's ultimate fantasy men strip off, time and again, to reveal the most perfectly ripped bodies ever created why would any red-blooded woman stay at home ?

Here Come The Boys! had sold out the O2 in London and a string of arenas throughout the country but, they had to admit afterwards, Dunstable was the worse attended concert of their tour.

But the good news, for those who saw it and are still on cloud nine, or are kicking themselves at having missed it – they promise to come back later in the year.

There naturally wasn't a man in the auditorium, sound and lighting crew aside, as temperatures sizzled during one of the sexiest performances seen on the small town stage.

I took my teenage daughter as part of her theatrical education. We've seen Shakespeare together, glossy West End musicals and thought-provoking dramas. We have even seen The Ladyboys of Bankok.

But it all seemed a distant memory as she screamed her head off when we sat together to watch 13 near naked men indulge everyone's secret desires.

Nothing had prepared us for The Boys or for the raucous crowd of women of all ages who, before they'd even hit the bar, were in the mood to party.

The troupe opened with a Take That number during which they ripped off their shirts to reveal buffed, tanned and waxed bodies, honed by more than 12 hours a week in the gym and strict dieting. These men created the phrase "the body beautiful".

Unofficial leader Victor told the audience: "We are going to make sure you leave here satisfied. What happens in here, stays in here. We are going to deliver".

The performers, which included four former Chippendales, hailed from California where most were male models and actors, but lead singer Nikk Mager was home grown.

The Yorkshire-born lad was in the boy band Phixx which was formed in 2003 by five runners-up from the TV show Popstars:The Rivals and over two years they had four top 20 singles.

But last year Nikk auditioned for X Factor and was cruelly crushed by Simon Cowell who told the young singer he didn't have a voice. "Stop chasing the dream," he told him.

The audience at The Grove would beg to disagree with Mr Cowell.

Nikk, the only guy to keep his clothes on, knocked everyone out with a powerful and electrifying performance that has won him an army of fans at every venue.

The dance routines, choreographed by J Lo's man Cris Judd, were edgy and faultless. This wasn't a cheap tacky strip show but a slick, classy revue featuring some of the best dancers, singers and performers the USA has to offer. That they all looked like every woman's dream date was co-incidental.

And the costumes ? Designed to be torn off. We had the Officer and Gentlemen naval uniforms, the Harley Davidson bikers, even a skit on the David Dundas' Levi Jeans ad where the cute guy strips off in the laundrette.

There was a shower scene, a Tom Cruise lookalike (though I thought more a young Dennis Quaid) pleasuring himself with satin sheets on the bed and one riotous moment when a young girl was kidnapped from the audience and groped by five of the men (and, yes, she loved every second of it).

At the end of the show the audience were invited on stage to have their photos taken with their favourite hunks and before long the fantasy was over.

There must have been a few sighs and pangs of disappointment when they returned home to their husbands and boyfriends – but at least they had the calendar to keep the memories alive.

Come back soon guys.
