Pure Meatloaf and Pure Magic were brilliant

Tribute acts worth seeing.

I would do anything . . . . . to see the real Meatloaf in concert especially as I went all the way up to the NEC in Birmingham a couple of years ago only for him to cancel with an hour to go.

So imagine my delight when I learned the next best thing was coming to Leighton and not only was it Pure Meatloaf but a Freddy Mercury impersonator would be accompanying him – A Queen and Meatloaf fest!

Pure Meatloaf, aka Andy Pryke, was a finalist in the 2004 Stars in Their Eyes and not only did he sound like Meatloaf, he looked uncannily like the real Michael Lee Aday.

His renditions of Meatloaf's greatest hits were fantastic and he was also an incredibly funny man, gaining his breath between the rock ballads with jokes.

Big hits covered included Anything For Love, Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, Dead Ringer for Love and Bat Out of Hell – he was brilliant. Goodness knows why he only finished second in Stars in Their Eyes – big mistake somewhere!

The first half had been dedicated to Freddie Mercury with Pure Magic paying homage to the great artist. Again, I was very impressed with his singing of back to back Queen hits including Bohemian Rhapsody which takes a brave singer to even think about let alone perform. But perform he did and the audience wanted more.

I spent over two hours singing along – yes, I knew every single word to the Queen hits and Meatloaf's anthems and I left the library slightly deaf from the ear-pelting, and I was still hoarse the next day.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening and I hope to see them again soon.
