Quartet hits high note at Milton Keynes Theatre

Stars of stage and screen take centre stage in Harwood comedy.

A RONALD Harwood bittersweet comedy brings quartet of stars to Milton Keynes Theatre.

Quartet is a touching, charming, drama about life-long friendships and growing old disgracefully.

It's set in a twilight home for musicians. Retired opera singers Cissy, Reggie and Wilfred are former colleagues planning a concert to mark the re-release of their famous recording of Verdi's Rigoletto.

Their gentle peace is shattered by the unexpected arrival of legendary diva Jean Horton.

As old rivalries resurface, long-forgotten secrets are revealed and the four have to put aside their differences in order to come to terms with their past, as well as their future.

The show must go on. And it does.

Starring Michael Jayston (Emmerdale, Nicholas and Alexander) , Gwen Taylor (Heartbeat, A Bit of a Do), Tim West (The Winslow Boy, Old Country) and Susannah York (Gold, Superman, A Man for All Seasons).

Ronald Harwood is an award-winning playwright, author and screenwriter.

His numerous credits include the original play and screenplay for The Dresser (for which he was nominated for an Oscar) and The Pianist, for which he won the 2003 Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.

He was also nominated for the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly in 2007 and subsequently won the BAFTA Award.

Quartet runs from Monday, July 26 until Saturday July 31.
