Stables boasts a whole lotta’ soul
No Caption ABCDE
THIS week sees a welcome combination of heartstrings and six-strings being plucked at The Stables in Wavendon, where a wealth of singer songwriters will be slinking into town to showcase their hits.
Paul Brady, arguably the bet thing to come out of Ireland since Guinness, takes to the stage tonight crossing musical boundaries in a way that only he can. Paul’s live performances incorporate songs from his 40-year back catalogue, spanning the genres of folk, rock, blues, traditional Irish and classic pop in what promises to be an awe-inspiring set.
Paul may well be a tough act to follow, but you wouldn’t bet against Wednesday’s act, Richard Digance, stepping up to the task with his raft of self-penned comic songs introduced with panache, style and outrageous humour. The evergreen performer has performed thousands of shows during his career, ranging from an audience of 8 in The Falklands to half a million at Knebworth Festival, so we can be sure of a rollicking show at what is rumoured to be Digance’s favourite venue.
And if that wasn’t enough quality for you, Friday sees the long-awaited return of Brian Culbertson to The Stables stage. His high energy show caused quite a stir in 2011 and Brian is fresh off the back of collaborations with Maurice White and Larry Dunn of Earth, Wind & Fire, so we can expect to see the funkier side of the smooth jazz genre as Brian debuts tracks from his recently released 13th album.
Rounding the week off on Saturday are silky smooth soul outfit The Christians, whose string of hits in the 80s and 90s led to frontman Garry Christian being hailed as one of the voices of the century.
