The grand official opening of Leighton’s Astral Park community building takes place this Saturday (March 29).
An open day runs between 11am and 4pm and will be packed with free activities and family fun which will showcase to residents what the centre has to offer.
The ribbon cutting of the £1.5m development at Billington Park will be performed by mayor Amanda Dodwell.
Leighton-Linslade Town Council has appointed former leisure centre boss Mark Penton as Astral Park’s senior centre coordinator, while Steven Albon started this week as centre coordinator/duty manager.
Mr Penton told the LBO that the open day would demonstrate how the venue was well equipped for weddings, business conferences and training.
He said: “A bookings system is being installed at Astral Park and the town council offices, with already over 25 hours of weekly bookings secured.
“There has been lots of interest from families looking for hall hire for christenings, birthday parties and celebrations.
“We are urging the community to come forward with ideas to create new clubs and groups. We will support them by advertising internally (notice boards and leaflets) and externally (Facebook and Twitter).”
As a special opening deal, councillors have agreed to knock 20 per cent of the booking cost from April 1 to August 31. Equipment available on site for all bookings includes Wifi, tables, chairs, catering kitchen and presentation tools.
Football bookings will be taking place from August and Mr Penton said the council would be liaising with local clubs and secretaries including Leighton Town, Leighton United and Leighton Corinthians.
