Car is dismantled.
A WOMAN shopper had to stand by while firefighters stripped down her sports car in a Leighton supermarket car park to release a trapped moggy.

Firefighters were called to Morrisons, in Lake Street, on Saturday morning, following a report that a cat had got stuck in the engine bay of an MG Sports car.

It turned out that the cat had already used up one of its nine lives by hitching a ride to the car park on the underside of another vehicle. When it pulled up the adventurous pet ran off and jumped under the sports car.

A fire spokesman said: "We couldn't get it out and it became wedged in the engine bay. We had to strip the car down to get it out.

"And then, when we retrieved the cat we put it in a box but one of the Morrisons staff wanted to stroke it. Of course, as soon as we opened the box it jumped out and leapt into our fire engine. Eventually we got hold of it and passed it onto the RSPCA."

The firefighters spent two hours at the scene and didn't leave until they had reassembled the MG – much to the owner's relief.
