Central Bedfordshire Council has launched it's 'We're saying snow to potholes' campaign to encourage road users to report dangerous potholes caused by the severe weather.

The council say Bedfordshire Highways is still continuing to repair dangerous potholes in Central Bedfordshire, caused by the recent severe cold weather as an effect called 'freeze-thaw-cycle' has caused potholes to expand and in areas of weakness in the carriageway, has resulted in new potholes. This is also happening in other counties.

Bedfordshire Highways has already started to repair the most dangerous and severe potholes as a top priority and are working their way around Central Bedfordshire as part of the council's commitment to maintain all roads and highways to the highest standard.

Councillor David McVicar, Central Bedfordshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities, added: "We are working hard to repair the most dangerous potholes first, classed as category ones, these are roughly as wide as a man's hand and as a deep as his thumb!

"With any spell of exceptionally cold weather road surfaces will undoubtedly weaken so Central Bedfordshire Council is therefore repairing the most dangerous potholes throughout the area as soon as we can. We are also encouraging road users to call the Potholes Hotline 0300 300 8049 to report any severe potholes."
