Bedfordshire's under-fire police force has unveiled plans to improve following a disastrous showing in Home Office league tables.
The county's constabulary finished bottom after a critical report by HM Inspectorate of Constabulary last year, but chiefs at Bedfordshire Police Authority are now hoping to turn the ailing force around.
Among the targets it has set itself over the next three years are putting more bobbies on the beat, responding faster to 999 calls and tackling crimes like burglary, robbery and vehicle crime.
The plans are being supported by the Bedfordshire branch of the Police Federation, which represents rank-and-file officers, who have said the plans are "achievable".
But a federation spokesman said the strategy's success will depend on whether Whitehall gives the force enough cash.
At the moment government officials are considering cutting the authoriy's budget after its council tax demands rose by 9.6 per cent this year.
