One of the very few UK musicians to have performed with the official NYC-based Mingus Big Band, Arnie Somogyi will be presenting Scenes in the City (his Charles Mingus repertoire band) in LBO land on Thursday (April 9)

Leighton Buzzard-based leading double bassist and Ronnie Scott’s All-Star, Somogyi will be at The Five Bells, Stanbridge, as part of the ongoing Greensand Jazz series.

The band, which was formed in 2009, has appeared at many major UK and European jazz festivals.

Drawing its repertoire from the music of the great American jazz composer and bassist, Charles Mingus, Scenes in the City is an all-star band featuring multiple award-winning musicians, which embodies the freedom of interpretation and drive that characterise the
music of one of the most important and colourful figures in jazz.

Somogyi has become known as a specialist in Mingus’ music, directing related projects at The Royal Academy of Music and Birmingham Conservatoire.

The band line-up is Arnie Somogyi (bass), Alex Garnett (tenor saxophone), Henry Armburg Jennings (trumpet), Tim Lapthorn (piano) and Clark Tracey ( drums).

The music starts at 8pm. Tickets £13 / £3 (u18s and students).
