Business news: Motivational speaker visits Wards Engineering

Louise Burfitt-Dons paid a visit to Ward Engineering as part of her Boosting Britain campaign to change the negative way the UK is often portrayed in the media.

The Leighton Buzzard firm which has been in family hands for three generations makes components for Jaguar front and rear axles in their unit in Cherrycourt Way.

She said: “Small manufacturing units like Wards are the salt of our earth. They deserve a bit more recognition than they usually get. If young people were aware of how much they can do for national spirit they may wish to get more involved.”

A total of 56% of the private sector workforce is employed by SMEs and all but 3% of them have less than 20 employees.

A renowned motivational speaker Louise is also the founder of children’s charity Act Against Bullying and the UK Kindness Movement.

She said: “Small firms turn over half the money in our economy. Not many people realise how important they are to our wellbeing.”
