An independent furniture shop in Leighton Buzzard helped to transform the life of a seven-year-old girl suffering from an incurable and aggressive form of cancer.
TK Furniture, of Hockliffe Street, gave £2000 worth of their stock to Haleema’s Milton Keynes family who appeared on Channel 5’s Cowboy Builders after being conned out of thousands of pounds by a rogue builder.
It was their dream for Haleema, who is rapidly losing her sight, to see her own room before she goes blind.
The programme, which aired last night, showed the Leighton shop giving away a single four-poster bed, two bedside cabinets and wardrobe, faux leather bed frame and mattress, matching wardrobe, bedside cabinets and a mirror to furnish two rooms in the house.
Sam Shattock, of TK Furniture, said: “It came as a bit of a surprise; we thought it might have been a windup at first!
“They liked the stuff that we had and thought it would be suitable for the family.
“They spent time looking and then contacted us on the website.
“Being a small family business we thought it was worthwhile cause and it felt good doing it.
“These things don’t happen every day.
“And we got to be on telly too!”
