Leighton’s Umbrella Heaven has come up with a bright idea to lift the gloom associated with the clocks going back an hour.
It may have meant an extra hour in bed on Sunday and lighter mornings as well, but it also means that it will be getting dark earlier in the afternoons.
It can be a dangerous time of year for school children and with Hallowe’en and Bonfire Night fast approaching there will be a lot of young children out on busy local roads.
With this in mind chief umbrollogist at the Youngs Industrial Estate, Stanbridge Road-based firm, Rob McAlister, has designed a new hi-viz road safety umbrella especially for young children.
Staff have been out and about to local lower schools delivering free samples to help promote road safety.
The umbrella has been designed for maximum visibility with a fluorescent canopy with three reflective stripes running around it making it hard to miss.
In addition there are more stripes on the carry sleeve. When it’s not raining the umbrella can be carried on the child’s back and still be highly visible. It also has a child-safe mechanism for easy opening and closing.
Rob said: “Children are so vulnerable and making sure they are safe on the roads is vitally important. Our hi-viz umbrellas will go a long way to ensuring the visibility of young children. In fact Argos agree with us and we are really proud to say that they have decided to list it in their autumn/winter catalogue and on their website.”
