The campaign is led by the National Association of British Market Authorities, with full support from the wider markets industry and Government.

Leighton-Linslade Town Council will be joining over 1,200 markets across the country by taking part in the Love Your Local Market campaign and by offering free pitches to young people aged between 16-25 it hopes to attract new market traders and boost economic activity.

Started in 2012 amidst fears around the sustainability of our nation’s high streets, Love Your Local Market participants have staged over 4,000 events and this year Leighton Buzzard will be joining the campaign again and interviewing local stallholders about how they started as market traders.

The interviews will be posted on the council’s Facebook and Twitter sites – to get involved in the discussions use #LBMarket.

A council spokesman said: “Love Your Local Market campaigns highlight the importance that our markets play in the heart of our communities, not only for retail but as valued community focal points.”

The fortnight is in addition to the monthly Pop-up Market, which offers stalls at subsidised rates and covers essential overheads such as insurance and stall hire fees.

The Pop-up market is an opportunity for all business start-ups or expansions.

> To apply for the Young Entrepreneurs free pitch on the Tuesday or Saturday market during the campaign or to discuss the Pop-up Market contact the council’s markets team on 01525 631912 or email [email protected].
