Collection of the keys to Leighton firm Miniclipper’s new 55,000sq ft storage warehouse in Houghton Regis, coincided with the award of a new contract, and an enquiry from a major DIY company to store thousands of pallets of doors – resulting in a full warehouse within weeks of the purchase completion!
Miniclipper Logistics is a second generation transport and warehousing business with 110 people operating two sites in Leighton Buzzard (Billington Road and Stanbridge Road).
Over the past 20 years, a steady progression of growth in Leighton Buzzard has ensured the company continued to grow even through the recession, employing over 100 people locally, included multi-family members.
The growth is now increasing in pace with a search for additional warehousing for 2015.
Purchasing the former Boots Distribution Centre on the outskirts of Dunstable was a brave step with two unsecured pending contracts, however four weeks after completion on the premises, the first contract was won. An additional last-minute enquiry from a DIY company to store thousands of doors, started to fill up the warehouse immediately, and has subsequently prompted a search for a fourth facility in Bedfordshire.
Up to 20 new warehousing jobs will be created by the new contract win at Houghton Regis, and Miniclipper is already recruiting class 1 and 2 drivers.
Leighton Buzzard based building contractors are already busy adapting the building to suit the company’s operation.
A spokesman said: “2015 has started with a buzz at Miniclipper with new people and new premises in place, and it’s an exciting time for our employees and our customers alike.”
