New-look Star is shining brightly

A popular pub in Leighton Buzzard has reopened its doors after a major joint investment by owners Punch Taverns.

More than 100 locals enjoyed The Star’s new look and patio courtyard following a successful launch night on October 6.

Visitors had a chance to sample some of the selection of drinks and cask ales the pub offers and were eager to sample some food from the new menu.

The Star, situated on Heath Street, had been closed for three weeks whilst work has been carried out.

The pub has received a full refurbishment throughout costing £150,000 and includes new décor, furniture and flooring.

Externally, improvements have been made to the rear courtyard patio with new furniture so customers can eat and drink outside.

A separate room has been created for private dining and to cater for business and group meetings.

A new fresh food menu using locally sourced ingredients has been created and features traditional pub classics with plans to introduce daily specials.

To complement the new look, the Star has a new team behind the bar.

New licensee Debbie Major, who gave up her career spanning over 30 years as a graphic designer to take on the pub, is thrilled with the new look and reception from customers: “Since helping to set up a friend’s pub I caught the bug and I wanted to run my own. I’m really excited to be in this position and I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive reactions from local residents.”

Born in Leighton Buzzard, Debbie previously lived alongside the pub at Chiltern Gardens so has always been familiar with the Star and was eager to transform its reputation: “It now has a more relaxed atmosphere and it has been designed to appeal to a variety of markets.

“I want to drive the business forward by implementing some new ideas for the pub and provide facilities for groups and societies to meet.”
