A popular Leighton Buzzard pub has to close and undergo a £100,000 refit.

The Office in Lake Street will hold a farewell party under its current guise on Saturday, and will then be shut for refurbishment until its grand re-opening on Friday, June 13.

Landlord Graham Kelmen is not giving much away, but says the pub will have a new industrial theme and will also have a new name - though he wouldn’t go into any more detail.

He said: “There will be an extensive refit, especially upstairs and everyone is looking forward to the re-opening.

“We will also be offering ridiculously low prices on Saturday as we say goodbye to the pub in its current form.

“It will be £1.50 a pint and £2 for a double.”

Fans of the Buzzard may be disappointed to hear that the the superhero model will not be getting much of a look-in when the pub re-opens though.

Graham added: “He will be around but we will probably have him perched in a window in one of the flats upstairs, looking down on everything.”

The LBO featured The Buzzard last year when Graham was ordered by Central Beds Council to remove it from the wall of his pub as it was judged to be out of keeping with the building.
