One winner at the first ever Bedfordshire Food and Drink Awards was certainly raising a glass or two to his success that has been brewing for many months .
Leighton Buzzard Brewing Company’s Jon d’Este-Hoare picked up the best microbrewery award at the ceremony held at Luton Hoo Walled Garden earlier this month.
Jon, who pipped highly commended Potton Brewery and commended Ampthill Brewery to the title, said: “It was a total surprise – I didn’t even know I had been nominated when about a month ago I got a letter congratulating me for being shortlisted for the final. I looked into it and found that it was solely as a result of public nominations.
“Having only been trading 10 months I went along to the final for the experience without a great expectation of winning.
“I really want to say a huge thank you for all those who must have nominated me. This is the second award I have picked up since opening and it makes the long hours worthwhile!”
Another success story for LBO land saw the Best Fine Dining Restaurant accolade go to Woburn’s Paris House, ahead of highly commended D’Parys (Bedford) and commended The Plough (Bolnhurst).
Meanwhile, Cakes by Shelly of Leighton Buzzard was highly commended in the Best Independent Food Retailer/Producer of the Year category.
