The resignation of Richard Dennison as a Leighton-Linslade town councillor for Grovebury Ward is likely to lead to a by-election.

There is a March 30 deadline to request a by-election, otherwise the post can be filled by co-option.

Mike Bishop, Secretary of the Constituency Labour Party, confirmed that the party intended to call for an election for a replacement.

He said: “I don’t know the reasons for Richard Dennison’s resignation so cannot comment at this stage, but I hope that there is a very good reason for making the town’s taxpayers bear the cost of a by-election so soon into the term of office. The parties will have to select new candidates very quickly and the Labour Party has already started its processes.”

The LBO understands Mr Dennison, a Conservative, has stepped down due to relocation because of a new job.
