Furious customers are signalling their intent to protest at continued problems with the O2 mobile phone network.

Ron Sharp, 65, of Sylvester Street, Heath and Reach has been without signal at home for around five weeks and complained that O2 operators had made little attempt to solve the problem.

Mr Sharp is a physiotherapist and says the failures have affected his ability to keep in contact with clients.

He said: “When we bump into people in the village we’ll ask each other if anyone’s had any service yet. I was told engineers would go up [one of the masts] but nothing has happened. I’ve called five or six times now.”

Within hours of a message regarding the issues being posted on the Heath and Reach village Facebook group, 18 different residents had confirmed similar difficulties.

When contacted by the LBO, O2 reported only brief, intermittent downtime in the area. A spokesman said: “One of our masts delivering service to the Heath and Reach area had experienced intermittent issues from Monday, March 24.

“Our engineer was on site and replaced some equipment on March 26 with full service returning at approximately 12.30pm that day. We work as quickly as we can to fix any issues and apologise for any inconvenience.”

Mr Sharp reported no improvement after the latest visit by engineers.

He added: “It has made no difference, there is still no network in the village.

“I spoke to O2 this morning and I was told that they know there is a problem but they do not have a resolution date.

“The other annoying thing is on their live checker site, they say there is not a problem and the service is fine.”

Last year, the LBO reported on signal issues and loss of 3G for residents in Leighton too.
