Leighton mayor Cllr Gordon Perham at new Sandhills Community House

RESIDENTS and VIPs had their first chance to lay the foundations for strengthening ties in South Leighton with the opening of the area’s first community house.

On Tuesday Leighton Linslade Town Council leader, David Bowater, Councillor Ray Berry and clerk Pat Kingsnorth, were among a group of local business and community leaders who toured the building in Plover Road, Sandhills.

The next day the house threw open its doors to welcome in the public (and mayor Councillor Gordon Perham) with a family day aimed as bringing the whole community together.

There were fun activities for the children including face-painting, arts and crafts and garden games, while inside there were representatives from the community police, the CAB, voluntary groups and a pre-school group.

A day later PCSO Fay Barrett returned to the house to help organise a children’s summer holiday activity day.

In future weeks there will be playschemes and children’s activities. Drop by the community house to meet staff Helen and Lucy or call 01525 374600 for more details.
