New year, same water problems for the Grand Union Canal that runs through Leighton Buzzard.

Last week we reported that The Cooks Wharf area of the Grand Union Canal had drained away for the second time in four months, the most recent cause being because of a leak with the lock gates.

The Canal River Trust were planning to come and replace the leaky gate over the next few weeks.

This week it is the area at Three Locks between Leighton Buzzard and Fenny that has been drained away.

Leighton Net (@leightonNet) posted on Twitter on Monday, January 4: “Water missing from lock at Three Locks between Leighton Buzzard and Fenny this morning.”

The Canal River Trust responded quickly to the problem, a spokesperson for the Canal River Trust said: “It would appear that the missing water was down to a boater error when using the locks.

“The lock gate paddles, which control water flow to and from the canal and the locks, was left opened so water from the canal continued to flow in from the main part of the canal, draining a section.

“It is all sorted now though and the canal water levels are back to normal.”
