An investigation has been launched after former heavyweight boxing champion Frank Bruno's car rolled into a Leighton Buzzard market stall and sent the contents flying.

Bruno, who lives in nearby Little Billington, was visiting the market on Saturday (April 16) to pick up a bulk order when the incident took place.

Eye witness Lainy Ward, of Old Road, contacted the LBO after the heavyweight boxer’s Bentley hit one of the market stalls.

She said: “It was just after 12pm, my husband and I were walking through Leighton Buzzard town centre and noticed a commotion outside The Swan pub.

“A market stall had been knocked over and its contents were spread across the path.

“I saw Frank Bruno and heard him explaining to the angry stall holder how it had happened.”

Leighton-Linslade Town Council, who oversee the running of the market, told the LBO it would be conducting an investigation.

A council officer said: “As with any incident at the market the council has an obligation to investigate, which is what we will be doing this week and if we have to change any market practices then we will.

“Cars are not normally allowed access to the road when the market is on but there is an agreement that if somebody buys in bulk, which he did on this occasion, then they can bring their car down to load it.”

Frank Bruno’s agent did not want to comment on the incident.
