The tow path along the Grand Union Canal through the Leighton-Linslade is looking clean and tidy again thanks to members of Leighton Buzzard Canoe Club in conjunction with Leighton Linslade in Bloom and the Canal and Rivers Trust who supplied the equipment .
Members and their families from the canoe club took to the water in all manner of craft while others marched the towpath picking up litter and discarded rubbish as they went.
This is the fourth year the club has chosen to take on this job. Julian Brown, canoe club chairman said: “We use this stretch of the canal to train on several times a week and think it’s only fair that we put something back into it.
“Using the boats we are able to access many places that people on foot can’t. Clearing the litter and debris from the water makes it safer for our paddlers, safer for the wildlife and of course makes it far more pleasant for people enjoying a walk along the towpath.”
