The Friday Club in Leighton, the ‘Youth Club for the over 59s’, has moved premises for the third time in its four-year history.
Started by a handful of people in the library coffee shop, increasing numbers forced the club to move, first to the Friends Meeting House, and then to the Forster Institute.
With growing numbers, membership is 100, and a waiting list of people wanting to join, the club has relocated to Leighton Town Football Club.
A spokesman said: “The new premises offer more comfort, easier access for all members, especially those with mobility problems, and better parking facilities, as well as more scope generally.
“As a gesture of goodwill to other users of the Forster Institute, The Friday Club has donated the electric projection screen, which the Friday Club had installed, to the Institute.”
At their final meeting at the Forster Institute, the club enjoyed a talk by the entertainer Fiona Harrison about her fascination with the stage, illustrated with a medley of songs ranging from the First World War to the 1970s.
