Oh là là, Leighton does the Continental this Saturday when all things European will be celebrated. Leighton-Linslade Town Council is staging a Continental Day which coincides with a two day visit by a French market.
On Saturday there will be additional entertainment and attractions for the whole family.
From 11am to 3.30pm a programme of music and dance takes place in the High Street that includes flamenco and the can-can followed by have-a-go workshops.
Leighton Buzzard Children’s Theatre, Classic Guitar, Papa Schnitzel’s Oompah Band, Milton Keynes Irish Dancers and other street entertainment will be entertaining visitors and helping create a special European atmosphere on the day.
Look out for the three large murals which will be located around the town centre. Painted by local children and supervised by mural artist, Sarah Hodgkins, each mural depicts a different European scene from Mediterranean, Alpine to a typical street scene.
There will be lots of activities for children, from craft workshops and face painting to competitions.
Children who come dressed in national costume will receive a small memento.
Professional storytellers will be in the library with tales from Hans Christian Anderson and others.
Two short European films will be showing free at the theatre.
A classic car display, from the Herts, Beds and Bucks Mercedes Benz Club , will feature the ever popular Minis from the Italian Job.
High Street and North Street will be closed to traffic affecting bus stops and taxis. Temporary pick up points will be signposted on the day.
