More than 100 youngsters will be taking part in a fundraising stage show for two charities on Saturday (June 7).

The young dancers and performers from the Little Luvvies ballet and drama school in Leighton Buzzard will be taking to the stage at Cedars Upper School.

Little Luvvies principal Emma Whittemore will be raising money for the Bedfordshire Downs Syndrome Support Group and Little Hearts Matter. She has close personal connections with each charity.

Little Hearts Matter supports youngsters like Lucia Pollard, whose mother Fiona is a close friend of Emma.

Lucia was born with half a working heart in April last year, and the charity works to support affected youngsters and their families.

One of Emma’s pupils also has a little sister who was born with Down’s Syndrome.

She said: “Ticket sales have been strong so far - around £900 has been raised, but I think it could end up being £1,200 or more after the event. The school have been especially generous and supportive, letting us hire its Raven Theatre at a very low rate.”

Little Luvvies has now been running for more than a decade and teaches ballet, drama and tap-dancing to youngsters aged from two to 11. This will be the third year running that the school has put on a fundraising show.

Emma added: “Last year we unfortunately lost one of our mummies to leukaemia and we managed to raise nearly £1,000 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Starlight Children’s Charity was our chosen charity the year before and we were able to make a donation of £700 through our ticket sales.”
