Our view of church renovation work

A laddered inspection of the spire of All Saints Church in Leighton Buzzard gave the ideal opportunity to take this impressive photo of the town from on high.

The picture shows children from Leighton Middle School in the right foreground and beyond Pulford school with its children playing on their field. To the left is Parsons Close Recreation Ground.

Terry Warburton, of the All Saint Preservation Trust, said: “Yesterday there was a laddered inspection of the spire at All Saints, something we have to do at regular intervals following the fire in 1985. I gave my camera to the steeplejack and got him to take some pictures of the town from the very top.

“The latest, penultimate, phase of work on the church is nearing an end and the scaffolding should come down in a couple of weeks. Contractors are presently working inside the church, plastering and decorating the north side of the nave.

“The next is the last phase in the 14-year programme of work, restoration of the medieval chapel on the north side and it is hoped this will commence later this year, funding permitting. In the meantime the appeal goes on through All Saints Preservation Trust, at 30 Hockliffe Street, LU7 1HJ.”
