Royal love story Prince William, Kate Middleton and Baby George have been in Leighton to show their support for true romance – well, sort of!
Leighton will be all loved up in September when it hosts the UK’s only festival dedicated to the romantic fiction, featuring more than 50 authors from all over the country.
Undeterred by the rain on Thursday morning, the royal guests made a flying visit to Leighton Buzzard – causing the public to do a double take as they met local authors beside the historic market cross to give their support to the upcoming Festival of Romantic Fiction taking place between September 8 and 13.
Leighton author and festival organiser Kate Allan (pictured) who managed to get her hands on the life-size cut-out of the royal trio, said: “It was thrilling that Wills and Kate were able to join us to show their support for the festival!
“With just a month to go now, we’re all very excited. The Festival of Romantic Fiction is in its fourth year, but it’s a first for Leighton Buzzard and I really hope lots of local people will have the chance to meet some of the amazing authors who are coming to take part in the festival.”
A week of romantic movies at Leighton Buzzard’s theatre culminates in a weekend of events at Leighton Buzzard library, theatre and in the town centre including a special afternoon tea at The Green House and a book fair taking place on the High Street on Saturday, September 13.
Leighton author Tony Drury (pictured) will be leading a workshop From Fiction in Film at the theatre and Leighton author Jill Steeples (pictured) is appearing at the library on Friday, September 12 for a fun Girls Night In.
Festival tickets are available from Leighton Buzzard Theatre Box Office 0300 3008125 and online at www.festivalofromance.co.uk where you can also find out more details about the festival schedule too
