Thousands raised for Age UK

A 20-year-old completed the London marathon on Sunday and raised thousands for Age UK.

Jess Bennett, 20, of Tilsworth, set herself the personal challenge of completing the marathon and raising £1,850 for the charity that has helped her family.

She said: “My nan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s two years ago, every day that goes by things slowly start getting more and more confusing and her memory starts to fade.

Age UK have offered many services to help and support, not only my nan but many other people suffering from the same or in similar situations.

“This is why I wanted to say thank you to them by running the London marathon and try and raise as much money as I can for this amazing charity.”

Age UK provide services and support at a national and local level to inspire, enable and support older people.

Jess completed the marathon in five hours and 48 minutes, she said: “It went really well, very hard and difficult, but I did enjoy it and it really was a great achievement.

“It was the most challenging thing I have ever done but I am so happy I completed it.

“I have never felt so many emotions in such a short amount of time. What an amazing experience and one I will never forget.

“The most amazing thing is that I managed to smash my target for my charity, raising £2,125.

“Thank you to everyone that made a donation, it honestly means the world to me and I know it will to all the people this money is going to help!”
