Top talent for Showtime in Leighton Buzzard

There'll be a change from the classics when Leighton Buzzard Festival Singers welcome up-and-coming young stars to their next concert at Brooklands School on Saturday, July 9.

The programme includes highlights from Les Mis, Cats, Guys and Dolls and other Broadway hits.

The talented youngsters are students at the Emil Dale Academy where they all have their sights firmly set on a career treading the boards.

The youngest is 11-year-old Ben Mullan who will sing Electricity from Billy Elliott. He’ll be joined by fellow pupils Bradley Adams, Joe Churms, Jordan Ditton and Charlotte Wood.

They’ve been put through their paces by the Academy’s vocal tutor, David Beer, who has a glittering CV in the world of showbiz.

In addition to being musical director of a raft of West End hits including Me and My Girl, he was musical associate on the biggest rock event ever staged - Roger Waters’ presentation of Pink Floyd’s The Wall in Berlin.

He also performed extracts from Cats for the Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace and as the BRIT School’s musical director, discovered and taught Katie Melua, Leona Lewis and The Kooks, among other stars of the future.

Showtime will be conducted by the Festival Singers’ regular musical director Alan Childs.
